We invest in the ecosystem we came from
A technology sector only becomes durable when knowledge circulates. We spend real time teaching, mentoring and opening up our work.
What we run
Six programmes, running continuously
This is not corporate social responsibility bolted onto the side of the business. It is how we keep the local talent pipeline alive, which is a commercial interest as much as a moral one.
Hive Academy
A free twelve-week evening programme covering software fundamentals, version control, testing and cloud basics. Places are prioritised for women and applicants from outside Kampala.
180+ graduates since 2021Mentorship
Every engineer mentors at least one person outside the company, with monthly sessions, code review and an honest read on what to learn next.
1 mentor per engineerOpen source
We release internal tools that are useful beyond our own projects and contribute fixes upstream when we hit bugs.
Public tooling on GitHubMeetups and talks
We host and speak at regional developer meetups, and publish what we learn, including what did not go to plan.
Quarterly sessions in KampalaInternships that count
Paid internships with real project work and a named mentor. Interns ship to production, and many stay on.
Paid, six monthsPro bono work
Each year we reserve capacity for organisations in health, education and conservation, delivered free and to commercial standards.
Two projects per yearHive Academy
Twelve weeks, free, twice a year

What it is like to work here
Small teams, real ownership
You work with the people building your system. No account layer between you and the engineers.
Learning is part of the job
Protected time each week for study, internal talks and open source. We fund certifications that matter.
Sustainable pace
We plan for a rhythm people can hold for years. Crunch produces defects, which cost more than the overtime saved.
Remote-friendly, Kampala-rooted
Based in Kampala, working across the region. Async by default, in person when it matters.
